The 5 Emotional Stages of Painting a Fraternity Formal Cooler

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at DU chapter.

It’s that time of the season when girls are being asked to frat formals left, right and center. And if any of you have had the honor of painting a frat cooler you will know just how emotionally taxing it can be. Here’s an ode to all the stress and excitement that comes with this sacred task.

  1. The initial excitement stage- OMG I’m going to be so f***ing crafty. Cue massive amounts of pinteresting…

2. The oh sh** I forgot about this stage- Running to the store the monday before you leave for the formal grabbing the first cooler you see. #procrastinationatitsfinest

3. The this is not as easy or fun as it sounds phase- How do I sand it? What the f*** is mod podge? Where to begin painting? What are you?!?!

4. The this is actually not as ugly as I thought it was going to be phase- Thank god I took an art class last quarter.

      5. The look of sheer happiness on your date’s drunk face when he sees your superior cooler phase- I knew I was born to be a fraternity sweetheart.

I'm from Westchester, New York and am a junior at the University of Denver. Currently I'm a media studies major and a double minor in fine arts and communications. When I'm not busy writing papers, avoiding math or at a sorority event I can be found in the mountains or watching movies. One day I will probably be making indie films and hanging out on the ski slopes. My Pro Tip: Do what you love, love what you do.
