9 Life Lessons Full House Taught Us

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Point Park chapter.

Let’s face it: Full House probably taught you more about life, love, family, and more in its short, half hour episodes than almost anything else did growing up.

Each episode focused on some sort of problem, somehow solved within the half-hour duration of the show.  Here’s a list of some of the most important lessons that Full House taught us growing up:

1. Music makes everything better

Okay, maybe having a sing-a-long with the Full House crew every episode was a little cheesy, but it definitely taught us that music makes everything a little bit better.  Uncle Jesse was a huge advocate of this; and who wouldn’t believe everything Uncle Jesse said with that perfectly quaffed hair?

2. Don’t be afraid to ask for help

Danny was completely unsure of how to raise three girls after his wife, Pam, passed away, and did not hesitate to ask for help from his best friend and Pam’s younger brother.  Sometimes you just can’t do things on your own, and that’s completely okay.

3. Don’t lie

Your guardians will find out about the horse in the kitchen, the car that was driven through the back of the house, and the fact that you skipped school to get an autograph from your favorite singer.  You’re better off just telling the truth in the first place, or at least fessing up within 22 minutes.

4. Your best friend should always be a priority

Even when they are as awful as Kimmy Gibbler can be and even when they are as annoying as Joey can be.  Friendship is extremely important, and best friendship should always try to be salvaged, even if they ditch you to hang out with older, cooler girls at the mall (thanks, Kimmy Gibbler).

5. Sibling jealousy is real

Sometimes your sibling will get to be on an Oat Boats commercial instead of you, but you just have to suck it up and deal with it.

6. Even adults gets scared sometimes

How terrified were Jesse and Joey when they first made an attempt in the advertising jingle business?  How nervous was Danny on his first day as the host for “Wake up, San Francisco?” Sometimes adults get scared, too, and that’s completely okay.

7. Gender stereotypes are completely obsolete

Michelle wanted to play with cars? Okay.  Joey wanted to do ballet? Okay. Full House showed that gender roles should not be displayed to children and that they should be able to make their own decisions about things of that nature.

8. Pets are important

Was there ever a dog better than Comet?  Full House showed that family pets and animals are very important.

9. Family is forever

Family is the most important bond, and Full House showed us that that bond should never be broken.  Hey, every time Uncle Jesse tried to run away or decided to move out, he always came back, didn’t he?  I guess he just couldn’t resist Michelle’s cuteness.

So now you have a comprehensive list of some of the most important lessons Full House taught you.
