Coping with home sickness when moving back into college

As the summer slowly begins to wind down and our car windows begin to fog up, it’s a reminder that school has started yet again.

The beauty about school beginnings, is the great clothes and shoes we can show off as we head to class. However, living in college can sometimes be a drag and let’s face it missing the home cooked meals is the worst part. But here are a few ways that can help you cope when you’re feeling a little home sick.

Spend time with friends– After all, laughter is the best medicine! Friends and college roommates can sometimes feel like family and is there for support when you need it!

Videochat with your family– The beauty about technology is that it gives us many ways to communicate with our love ones! Videochatting with your family can give the comfort that you may need. 

Planning a weekend visit home– If the distance home is affordable and do-able, planning a weekend getaway can definitely cheer you up and give you something to look forward to!

Cooking your favorite meal– A great thing about college is learning how to make yourself independent. Cooking your favorite meal will not only make your stomach happy but it will give you a great deal of comfort. 

Whether you live thousand miles away from home or live right next door, it’s important to remember that feeling homesick is very common. When our bodies get exposed to a new living environement, it’s only natural that our emotions feel overwhelmed. However, finding new clubs or organization to be part of can become our new “home”. After all, that’s what college is all about!
