Campus Cutie: Deep Patel ‘18

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Chapel Hill chapter.

I’ve gotten to know Deep over almost 10 years of friendship (boy, we’re old) and have learned that he is one of the most funny and hardworking people I know.  Even though he’s taken,he can still make one hell of a wingman, so if you see him around campus, make sure to say “Hi!”

Year: Sophomore

Major: Biology, Pre-Med

Career Goals: Internist – Internal Medicine

Relationship Status: Call him Liam Neeson, cause he’s taken

Her Campus: What are you involved with on campus?

Deep: I do undergraduate research and I get paid for it down in the genetic medicine building.  We work on DNA, bacteria and yeast.  I volunteer at the UNC hospital and the nursing units in surgical oncology – fun stuff, fun stuff.  I also like to play intramural sports – tennis and volleyball have been the sports for this year.  Other than that, just hanging out with friends and stuff like that.

HC: Who is currently your favorite artist?

D: I mean…it always has to be Justin Timberlake cause there’s no other option.  It’s never not JT.

HC: So then what’s your favorite song?

D: “Mirrors” – there’s no competition

HC: How would a friend describe you?

D: Sassy, number one, and sarcastic.  I would like to say smart, I’m not sure if everyone agrees.

HC: What are your words to live by?

D: Kinda “carpe diem” ’cause you just have to take the day as it comes and even if you have a bad day today, you have another day tomorrow, so you just gotta keep going, make the best of what you have and keep on getting up when you fall down.

HC: What’s your favorite weird food combination?

D: Ummmm… I don’t think anything I eat is abnormal.  Wait, I like pineapple juice on top of grapes, so you take grapes and put pineapples on top of them and let it seep for a little bit and it’s delicious.

HC: If you could be cast on any TV show, which one would you want to be cast on?

D: I would have said “Grey’s Anatomy,” but Derek’s dead, so no, all my favorite characters are dead.  And Christina moved to Germany, I think, I forget which country.  Other than that, I would just say “Big Bang Theory” because it’s so casual and nerdy and funny and overall great.

HC: If you could be any age for the rest of your life, how old would you want to be?

D: I want to say 28 because by 28 I’m hoping I can grow a full beard.  Plus, I feel like by the age of 28, you’re beyond your maturing years and not on that decline.

HC: If you could spend the next year of your life in the last year of your life or the next one, which would you choose?

D: The next year of my life because I’ve already done things in the past and they were great and I’d love to relive them, but you know, new opportunities await and why not see what they’re all about.

So, if you’re looking for someone to watch Netflix with, get life advice from, or play a round of tennis or two, Deep is your guy.
