Skidmore News

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Skidmore chapter.

Name: Skidmore News

Editor-In-Chiefs: Billie Kanfer ‘16 and Jacob Reiskin ‘17

Her Campus: We heard you just celebrated an amazing milestone of the publication’s 90th year. Tell us a little about it.

Skidmore News: Even though Jacob and I haven’t been on the paper for the past 90 years I think it’s safe to say that our goals and commitment to the paper are the same as those members from 1925. It’s amazing that a publication can thrive for almost a century, and we are so proud of how far we have come. This year we wanted to revamp our website (which is up and running) as a way to bring in the 90th year of publication. Modernizing the look of the website parallels our goals for the paper to increase it’s accessibility to students. We want to present ourselves as a sleek and reliable source of information. As each year passes we learn from the past and make sure that the future of Skidmore News is as successful as it has been for the past 90.

Her Campus: Why should everyone read the Skidmore News?

Skidmore News: Everyone should read the Skidmore News because we are a group of writers and editors that have access to what is happening on Skidmore’s campus. We are student-led and have all volunteered to be a part of this team. Devoting our time to the paper is something we love to do, and we hope that others can sense our passion and commitment through our publication. The editorial board wants to publish articles that are relevant to students and the Skidmore community as a whole. We are always looking for ways to improve and ways to make an impact on campus.

Her Campus: What should we be looking forward to (i.e. events, new columns, etc.)?

Skidmore News: The Skidmore News co-sponsors many events across campus. In early October we sponsored an event (Speakeasy) with Folio, which was a huge success. Aside from sponsoring events we also have a ton of great restaurant and film reviews, a column in the works written by a Skidmore Professor, and generally interesting and exciting articles both on our campus and in the nation.

Her Campus: What is your goal for Skidmore News 2015-2016?

Skidmore News: We don’t have one goal for this year, we have many. Jacob and I discuss very often what we hope to achieve as we always strive to make the paper better and better. This is our second semester working together as editor-in-chiefs and we have similar goals. We want to increase our readership, continue pursuing controversial and riveting topics, expand into using various multi-media platforms (i.e video), and make sure that The Skidmore News is always on top of news on this campus.
