Kick Your Caffeine Addiction With These Healthy Alternatives

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCSB chapter.

Midterm season is upon us, which means the coffee addicts are lining up the corners of Starbucks. Let’s be honest as college students, coffe sometimes is a must to get our boost.  I have been hearing more and more stories of people who end up getting a mild to massive headache if they go a day without their fix. The truth is, caffeine is quite addictive, and for some, the only way to function is to guzzle down a java all day long. However, do not fret, for I have listed some easy and available options for you to get the fix that you need!

Yerba Mate: The leafy tea brew that has the strength of coffee and health benefits of tea. This naturally caffeinated tea comes from the holly tree in South America. The cool thing about this tea is that it’s super versatile, you can drink it hot or cold or even sparkling!

Ginseng Tea: This tea is made purely by energizing herbs and it is too, caffeine free. However, it is considered to be potent enough to keep you going for a whole day, so pound it down with caution.

Caffeine Brownies from IV Drip: Did you know that IV Drip makes caffeinated brownies? Although probably not as healthy as tea, these brownies are equivalent to a nicely brewed Starbucks coffee, both in deliciousness and effectiveness.

Breathing Exercises: If tea or brownies cannot do it for you sometimes all you need to deal with stress or to reboot, is to breathe. Meditation makes you feel awesome! You get some downtime to relax both physically and mentally; at the same time you are able to improve your health by reducing your blood pressure and cholesterol levels.  I personally find this alternative the most natural and healthy for me to feel energized and ready to tackle the day!
