Halloween Costumes for the Last Minute People

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Nottingham chapter.

For those of us who are not blessed with excellent time keeping skills, Halloween creeps up unannounced every year forcing unimaginative played-out costumes (I’m a mouse, duh).

BUT NOT THIS TIME. This year, why not try one of these supremely simple costume ideas and trick your friends into believing you’re vaguely creative?

1. A Road

Yes a road. If people can go as Sexy Gandalf, you can go as tarmac. (Just be mega careful it’s not so convincing that traffic believes you.)

2. An Egg

In a similar vein to the road, all you need is plain clothes. The absolute best bit is that the costume allows such free interpretation. Depending on the viewer, you could be a fried egg, a poached egg, a haribo egg… etc. The list is endless. As are the egg puns you will hear. Cracking.

3. A Bulletin Board

Are you the helpful type? Or do you just get too drunk to remember your address for the taxi home? Just stick whatever info you need on some post-its for this practical yet innovative costume idea.

4. A Freudian Slip

Want to prove you did a Psychology A-Level? Well look no further than this punny little number. Stick on clever words like ego, oedipal complex and brain to really make sure your joke hits home. Also be very prepared to explain yourself all night.

5. A Unicorn

Since unicorns are mythical, this costume is very much open to interpretation. The only part that scientists can agree on is the existence of a single horn on top of the head. For this reason, a headband would be useful when recreating such a majestic animal.

6. An Error Page

This costume is doubly great since you’ve made a costume out of not having one. It’s meta, don’t you see???

7. A Sim

SO EASY. No specifics, just literally your own clothes plus green diamond above the head. Bonus points for walking into walls or setting barbeques on fire.

8. An Emoji

For the millennials, this is such a relevant costume. Future generations will ask what you and your friends went as for Halloween ’15 and you’ll be able to reply proudly that costumes included an aubergine, a heart face and a smiling pile of poo.

9. A Wall From Harry Potter

If you’d like to scare some muggle-borns this Halloween then there’s no better way than an imitation of Tom Marvolo Riddle’s cheeky bid to conquer the wizarding world. Fake blood and a plain white tee? Couldn’t be simpler.
