Daniel Guthrie is a at Bentley who is trying to change the way Bentley and students everywhere do weekends.
Born on a Friday night in a dorm room right here on campus, HangOut was thought up when Daniel and his roommate decided to set out a path to improve the contestant struggle that is making plans on the weekend. With groups chats being a constant steam of miscommunication and most people not having a list of options for plans until later at night, Daniel wanted to do something.
A few days later, Daniel and his friends created HangOut – a location based event planner that allows users to post and see what is happening socially on their campus or in their area, and who is attending. With the app, users can see what’s popular for the night whether it be a sports game, concert, party, or a gathering at a bar.
HangOut covers all the bases by giving users two different feeds on the app. The first is the ‘My Area’ page, which allows users to quickly see what’s going on in the area completely anonymously, using its location-based services. The second feed is the ‘Newsfeed’ page which – similar to Facebook – allows you to privately see only what your friends are going or what they’re doing. (Think: Posting a possible trip to Chipotle for the afternoon and having easily answered RSVPs)
Currently, HangOut is working to pursue its passion of sharing stories who are exploring their talents around the world, and all the while using its own platform to fuel other to join along on their adventures.
