Campus Celebrity: Brooke Clouse

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at San Francisco chapter.

Brooke Clouse is a new transfer student at SFSU and is already making a name for herself campus wide. She’s always down to help out a friend or gather a group together for a study session!

Age: 25

Year: Junior

Major: Sociology

Hometown: Salt Lake City, UT

What are you a part of on campus?: I am currently a pledge for Alpha Gamma Delta and am working on joining the Student Health Advisory Committee. I am also getting involved in the SF State Cares mental health and wellness campaign, which is a wonderful outreach group on campus that encourages community and promotes wellness in all aspects of college life.

What are your hobbies?: I really love playing my ukulele, video games, doing DIY projects, participating in political activism, and blogging.

How do you stay organized with everything that you’re doing right now?: I honestly couldn’t stay organized without my moleskine bullet journal, which is a combination of a daily organizer, budget planner, and academic journal. It’s also a wonderful creative outlet to keep me sane when I’m stressed! I highly recommend starting one.

Who/What inspires you to be so active on and off campus?: This might be somewhat of a cliché answer, but my inspiration comes from people. Every day I meet people who are facing unique challenges in their life but they each have something that lights them up. I meet others who are the underdogs; hardened by their experiences but working harder and smarter than most to achieve their goals. We live in a beautifully diverse area filled to the brim with extraordinary people. I want to give back to this community whichever way I can, whether it be writing a blog post about organizing your studies in college or volunteering at a mental health event. If I can make someone’s day a little bit brighter, I can go to sleep happy.

Do you have any advice for other college students who want to participate in campus activities?: I would say to just do it. Don’t think twice. When I first started college I had a million reasons why I couldn’t get involved–lived far away from campus, work, social life, studying, etc.–but I got tired of wishing I could participate and reached out to an organization I was interested in. I couldn’t tell you how happy I am that I made that jump. The lessons I’ve learned being apart of student organizations cannot be taught in a classroom. If you’re passionate about something, reach out and get involved in something you enjoy. It’s never too late!

And lastly, what is something people don’t know about you?: I am currently fostering two orphaned baby elephants in Kenya.
