5 Local Spots for the Perfect Study Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wilfrid Laurier chapter.

As midterms, assignments, and papers pile up, life can get pretty overwhelming. In the most stressful of times, it’s important to remember to give your body and mind a well-deserved break!

Kitchener-Waterloo has so many great places to take your mind off school and keep you feeling stress-free. Here are 5 of the best places to visit in the city!

1. The City Café Bakery

Inspired by the ultra-cool and cozy atmosphere of New York City bakeries, this quirky bagel joint is the best place to go for all things bread-related.

Located in what was once an old gas station, The City Café now revolves around a huge wood-fired oven where staff make their baked goods daily. Try their incredibly fresh handmade bagels in the morning, thin-crust pizzas in the afternoon and their buttery croissants, sourdough bread, or pecan tarts anytime in between.

Don’t be surprised when you don’t see a cashier or a debit machine; this bakery is based on the honour system. All you have to do is grab what you want and dunk your money in the fare box!

Kitchener Locations:

50 South Ottawa St Kitchener, ON N2G3S7

175 West Avenue Kitchener, ON N2G 1R9

2. Jane Bond

Live music. Vegetarian Cuisine. Full Bar. Heaven.

Jane Bond is a teeny tiny gem in Uptown Waterloo with a funky, colourful atmosphere and delicious vegetarian dishes. There is no better combination than enjoying live music, a large glass of wine and an eggplant parmesan at this super cool joint.

3. The Boathouse

Nestled in the heart of Victoria Park, The Boathouse offers a relaxing atmosphere, delicious menu, and talented live musicians. What more could we ask for! When the weather is warm they even open up their large patio overlooking the lake.

The Boathouse recently underwent a massive renovation and they really stepped up their game. Try their amazing weekend brunch menu or visit them on a Friday night for dinner, drinks, and live music!

4. The Kitchener Market

The Kitchener Farmer’s Market doesn’t get enough hype for the amazing variety of fresh produce, meat, and dairy products their vendors offer. Not to mention, the yummy international cuisine options! Every Saturday you have the opportunity to buy fresh groceries and indulge in an ethnically diverse lunch. You can even take a cooking class to learn how to turn those fresh groceries into a delicious meal yourself!

5. The Jazz Room

The Jazz Room (in the Heuther Hotel) is the perfect place to hear great music. They offer the finest local musicians as well as artists from around the world. With an exceptional stage, fine acoustics, and a comfortable club setting, The Jazz Room is the perfect weekend study break. You can even order dinner and drinks as you enjoy the show!

And there you have it, five hidden gems in KW to visit and de-stress this term!

Wilfrid Laurier

You will typically see me with a large cup of tea and browsing social media under the fairy lights and reading up on my favourite lady bosses (Mindy Kaling let me be you please). Also my trivia regarding superheroes is endless. I have more music than time to listen to and someone definitely should consider taking away my blogging privileges. My love for pop culture is limitless and Netflix is the true MVP in my opinion. Contributor writer for HerCampus Laurier Stalk me and let's be friends here: Insta & Twitter: webofem
