Top 5: M&Cs Treats

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Mt Holyoke chapter.

Mount Holyoke is known for its great traditions- Mountain Day, Elfing, Pangy Day, and more. Perhaps the best (and sweetest) tradition, however, is the nightly milk and cookies, commonly referred to as M&Cs. Across campus, at exactly 9:30 pm (or 9:00 pm on Sundays), the exhausted, overworked, hungry students of Mount Holyoke drag themselves either to their M&Cs serving area or to Blanchard to get a treat, multiple juice or milk boxes, and a little social interaction before heading back to their rooms.

It’s common knowledge across campus that some M&Cs are better than others, but which ones are worth the study break? To save you the trek down to your kitchenette, here is Her Campus’ list of the top 5 absolute best M&Cs.

5. Cupcakes

Cupcakes are a classic, so you know you can’t go wrong when you see them on the menu! My absolute favorites are the “Chocolate Surprise” cupcakes, because not only are they amazingly chocolatey, they also have a surprise (of course): more chocolate! The middle of these cupcakes are filled with creamy milk chocolate.

4. Brownies

You can never have too much chocolate, so any type of brownie for M&Cs is glorious. If you like some fruit with your chocolate, try the raspberry brownies, which are heavenly. However, if you just want straight up chocolate, M&Cs brownies usually have chocolate chips in them, making them that much more delicious! Some people even pop them in the microwave for a few seconds to melt the chips!

3.  Chocolate Chip Cookies

Chocolate Chip Cookies are another classic: they totally remind me of sitting at home with my mom, telling her about my day at school. And not only are they homey, they’re the best cookies to eat with milk! However, if you like chewy cookies, you’ll have to have a friend check to see if they’re worth the trek downstairs because sometimes these cookies can be a little hard.

2. Butterscotch Chip Cookies

I have been known to eat up to 6 butterscotch chip cookies in one sitting on occasion, so obviously they have to be high up on my list. Honestly, what’s not to love? There’s the delicious butterscotch chips (that are sweeter and less bitter than chocolate), the amazing cookie that tastes like happiness, and the sugar rush you get after eating more than 2! 10/10 would eat these cookies again.

1. Apple Cider Donut Holes

Last but definitely not least, are the Apple Cider Donut Holes, and they’re #1 because they literally have it all. First, they’re little, so they’re less messy than regular sized donuts: you can just pop them into your mouth without getting sugar all over your face. Second, they’re perfectly powdery and delicious. Third, they’re snack sized! You can take as many as you want and eat them as you study or do homework! Just don’t get caught by the M&Cs workers; apparently there’s a “limit” and “you can’t take 10.”

These are my Top 5 M&Cs but there are plenty more delicious ones worth leaving your room for, although you should definitely avoid the Walnut Craisin Orange White Chocolate Chip Oatmeal cookies (or anything with Craisins, actually).
