In the year 2015, it is essential for women as a community to know our rights and fight for equality.  There is not one individual advocating for this more then the Democratic presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton.  Since her beginnings as a First Lady, continuing to a New York Senator and then secretary of state, she has been a spokesperson for not only women’s rights, but a champion for all individuals’ human rights.  It is important to note that she should not become president solely on the merit of her gender, but in the merit of her long and successful political career.

This country has yet to truly experience the benefits of a woman president.  While advocating for women’s rights is a strong part of her platform, Hillary Clinton is also a very strong believer in reproductive rights,  LGBT rights and middle class values. Her 30+ years as a public servant in the political arena exceeds all other candidates’ resumes.  She has seen first hand what it takes to be the President of the United States and knows what it takes to run for office.  A quote from Emily Mooney, a Trinity student from the class of 2016, states, “I have been waiting my whole life for this moment in history where the US elects a woman as President- as commander in chief. It’s important that women be powerful. It’s important that our voices become part of the public dialog, part of the problem-solving diplomatic equation. In light of the events in Paris this weekend, I can’t think of a more profound series of events that are changing the world. I want Hillary Clinton working for us to create a fair and effective solution to the ISIS problem. We need Hillary at this point in history. I can’t wait to participate exercising my right to vote in this historic election when women take the most powerful office in the nation. In the words of Elizabeth Cady Stanton, ‘Failure is impossible’.”

It should be a given that in the world we live in today as an American community, we have an advocate that fights for not only woman, but fights for the middle class and breaks barrios for a every citizen. Hilary has proven her worthiness as a presidential candidate, and will continue fighting to a part of something bigger than herself.

If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evidence that you tried.
