8 Stages of Going Out in Gainesville During the Winter

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

After months of sweating it out during warm Florida days and nights, it’s finally getting cool. At first we are all excited because we get to change up our wardrobes, but then we are like “Wait… what do we wear? We live in Florida and are not prepared for this.” Here is what it’s like going out during the winter if you’re a native Floridian.

1. Your roommates burst through the door screaming about going out to Midtown, so you check your phone’s weather app like, “What is 55 degrees?!”

2. So you quickly bundle up with every pair of leggings you own layered with jeans, a couple of long-sleeved shirts, a sweater and a peacoat.

3. Then you look in the mirror and realize you look like an obese bear about to go into hibernation, so you quickly adjust your outfit accordingly.

4. You finally have the perfect balance of cute and warm, and decide to pregame with one or maybe two (okay, three) shots to keep you warm on the walk to Midtown.

5. You manage to gather up your roomies and exit the apartment only to be faced with the bitter cold that you did not pick the right outfit for and you did not take enough shots to keep you warm.

6. Halfway there, you realize you and your gal pals might actually die on the way, and proceed to huddle along like penguins trekking through the arctic.

7. Finally you arrive at the door of Balls only to be greeted by a 12-person line, so you desperately flirt with the bouncer in hopes that he will let you in and out of the cold.

8. Before you know it, you’re in and immediately regret your wardrobe choice once again. All the people in this bar are making it hot as… balls. (Get it?)

But you know that it is not actually all that bad because you only live in Florida and not somewhere with real winters like New York. Good luck staying warm! We only have to survive for a month or two before it starts heating up again because #Floridaprobz.
