“Women who wear black lead colorful lives” – Neiman Marcus

And when is Neiman Marcus wrong? (Never, the answer is never.)

The other day I opened my closet and realized not only is almost everything in there neutral, but most of it is black. Every time I find a piece I like now, I tend to buy it in black. Black just feels classy, mysterious and sophisticated all at once and I think no other color can rival it in the fashion world. I even started a whole Pinterest board dedicated to outfits in black. Yeah, it’s gotten that bad.

I feel like at this point most of you are probably thinking the only people you’ve see dressed head to toe in black everyday are either headed to the graveyard or are serious metal heads. Well hopefully with these couple of ideas and pictures of black outfits done right you can see how black clothes can be super classy, feminine and light.

Here are a few pieces I’ve picked up and how you can wear them.

(Besides, it’s finals week anyway, we should all be wearing black in mourning of our grades).

1. The casual little black dress. Although we all know the term “little black dress”, it doesn’t have to be as formal as you think! This summer I picked up this stylish and simple, black tank top dress from Target. It’s loose fitted and looks great with or without accessories. It’s so minimalistic and has a great cut; I’ve worn it to the office and on nights out.

2. Black leggings, black tank and complimentary sweater. Last fall and winter I saw more pairs of leggings around campus than I ever thought I would in my life. We all love leggings, they’re comfortable, show off our tush just enough and can be worn with almost anything! So just grab one of your million pairs of black leggings out of the closet and try pairing it with a simple black tank and neutral sweater. It’s a cozy, chic outfit that you really can’t go wrong with.

3. Shredded black muscle tee, high rise shorts. I love this look because it’s a little badass while still being really feminine and adorable. All you need are high rise jean shorts (preferably light wash, the contrast looks good with the black tee), and a black muscle tee. Lately those stringy bras/bralettes have been in, this would be great to add to this outfit if the muscle tee has low cut sides.

4. Black skirt, long sleeves, booties. When I first saw this picture on Pinterest I thought, “this is perfect for winter!”. Then I remembered we live in Ohio and the only thing perfect for winter is an Eskimo suit. But actually, this outfit is adorable and with the stockings, could get you through some moderately chilly fall days.

5. Black Romper. Wake up, put it on and walk out the door. Rompers are awesome because like dresses they mean you only have to put one thing on when you wake up, and they have the added benefit of having pant/short bottoms so you don’t have to worry about pulling a Marilyn on a windy day. Here are three perfect black rompers:
