I have to admit it. I still watch Pretty Little Liars. I’ve stuck with this guilty pleasure since middle school. I was able to graduate high school and start college before the characters on the show entered their senior year, and yet I can’t escape this show.
As season six begins, it has occurred to me that I only have two more seasons left to critique the many confusing story lines. In honor of its final seasons, let’s look back at the most ridiculous events that have kept viewers intrigued for almost six years.
When Toby become a cop in practically a week…
I was never really sure when Toby decided to leave high school and become a police officer. But, since the police can never solve anything on this show, clearly the standards were low.
When Spencer temporarily joined the A Team…
For seasons, the writers made viewers question who could be the notorious ‘A.’ But when Spencer pretended to join the bad guys after Toby faked his death, I was convinced the writers weren’t sure whom ‘A’ should be.
When Emily killed a random character…
Emily shot someone a few seasons ago. The man was her ex-girlfriend’s fake cousin and killer, and he tried to kill Emily as well. The most disturbing part about this subplot was that Emily was barely fazed in the next episode after she killed him!
When Caleb looked like this…
At one point, Caleb and Hanna had the same hairstyle. Tyler Blackburn getting a haircut was one of the best things to happen to this show and his character.
When all the liars forgave Alison two seconds after she returned…
In all the flashbacks leading up to Alison’s return, she was depicted as the devil incarnate. It was expected that when she arrived, the liars would call her out for all the despicable things she did like encouraging Hanna to have an eating disorder. But, when she showed up everyone seemed to forget that Alison was evil!
When Jason made out with two of his sisters…
Poor Jason. He might be the most ill fated character. Not only has he gained three sisters over the course of this show, but he also dated two of them. Usually it bothers me when characters suddenly disappear each season, but I would fully understand Jason not having time to return due to hours of necessary therapy.
When a creepy psychic was used to explain plot holes…
The writers of Pretty Little Liars are known for not fully explaining why things happen on the show. So, when a psychic woman appeared outside of a graveyard to explain to the liars that she helped Alison escape after she was buried alive, it totally made sense.
When Emily dated someone who tried to drown her…
Emily’s choice in partners should be very concerning. She dated Maya who was very mysterious, and she liked Alison even though she tortured Emily and her friends for years. However, the most alarming couple on this show was Emily and Paige. Paige tried to drown Emily because Emily was a better swimmer than her. This show is madness!
When Ezra revealed he was using Aria to write a novel…
Possibly the worst story line that led to the best cry face ever. Ezra told Aria that he used to date her friend Alison, who he knew was underage at the time. Then, he disclosed that he only dated Aria to write a novel to become a famous writer. He’s still a fan favorite somehow.
When Hannah’s mom cheated on a preacher with Jason…
This relationship was just too odd to understand.
When Hanna forgave Mona for hitting her with a car…
I’m sensing a pattern here. All the liars seem to be the most forgiving people in the world. Mona was supposed to be Hanna’s best friend, but she was actually ‘A.’ Plus, Mona ran over Hanna with her car and put Hanna in the hospital.
When Noel Kahn randomly appears…
Characters come and go on this show constantly. Noel Kahn is one character that appears for one episode and then disappears for two seasons. Noel could be good or bad but you will never know because he leaves before you can get the answer. Hopefully he returns during the new season.
When Adam Lambert guest starred on a Halloween episode…
Yes, the American Idol alum made an appearance on this show. No, it did not make any sense.
When Aria wore these earrings…
I love Aria’s style, and I think she is the most fashionable liar. However, these earrings are the craziest accesories she has ever worn. I imagine when wardrobe handed them to Lucy Hale, she contemplated how to not lose balance while wearing these.
When Cece was revealed to be A…
Spoiler alert: Cece is A. The reveal was a little underwhelming and the explanation was lacking. Everyone knows that only Wren can be ‘A.’
