5 Struggles for People Who Only Wear Black

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Chatham chapter.

1. Shopping

Let’s say you’re shopping for a nice, warm cable knit sweater now that winter has officially set in. You see two styles that you are considering purchasing, but neither option comes in the color black. You ask the sales lady if either color comes in black, hoping for the answer of “yes.” However, this is not the answer you get. Instead, the sales lady says, “Nope, I’m afraid neither style comes in black. Perhaps try another color?” At this question, you cringe a bit internally but thank the lady for her help before continuing on your search in another store. They weren’t that great of sweaters anyways…

2. Pet hair

If you have a light colored pet that sheds a lot or know someone that does, there’s a good chance that if you wear black all the time, you might carry a lint roller around with you as well.  Pet hair shows up a little too well on black. You’re constantly swiping your clothes down so your clothes can remain the brilliant shade of black, a true testament to your favorite color.

3. When your blacks aren’t all the same shade of black

That sounds a little ridiculous, I know. However, when your pants are as black as black can be and your shirt is more of a charcoal, it can be frustrating. Sure, no one else is going to notice that your blacks aren’t all the same shade, but you do, and for the rest of the day you’re going to be slightly irritated over it.

4. The heat, it burns

Wearing black constantly means that once summertime rolls around, the sweatfest begins. Black unfortunately is one of the colors that absorbs sunlight, meaning that if your outfit consists of most of it, chances are you’re going to be roasting. Sure, you’re rocking that perfect witchy outfit at your friend’s party, but in reality you’re sweating to death, praying for a sudden snowstorm to come along and grace you with the cold.

5. People telling you to stop wearing so much black

There is always that one person that asks why you wear so much black or gives you the ever “friendly advice” to add a pop of color into your wardrobe because wearing so much black can be “depressing.” However, this is annoying. All this makes someone want to do is wear even more black than they already do, if only for the sole purpose of irritating you. Wearing all black is no different than wearing green, grey, or blue constantly. Perhaps the person isn’t trying to be depressing with their clothing choices. There is a strong chance that they’re wearing this color because they happen to prefer black to other colors. Strange, I know.
