How to Live in a Winter Wonderland

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Marymount chapter.

Now that Christmas has come an gone and the New Year has begun, it is time to put away those Christmas decorations! For many of you, like myself, Christmas decorations are probably some of your favorite and you hate to see them go. Without them, your room just doesn’t feel as cozy or inviting. Well have no fear! I have a fix for that. Here are five ways to transform your dorm (or room) into a winter wonderland just in time for the cold weather!

1. White Lights

The first must have for a winter wonderland are white string lights. Trade out those colorful Christmas Lights for a strand of simple white ones. They add a nice iridescent yellow glow to your space and look great over a window or near your bed. Trading the others for the white ones will make your room feel super cozy and warm.  You can even spice it up a little bit by adding some mirror garland along with them.

2. Gold

When you pair gold with white it adds a warming effect and can instantly create a pop for any plain space. Silver can also be a great wintery color, but it doesn’t always provide that warmth that gold does. Try finding a cute figurine that’s gold or a lamp/decoration with gold accents.

3. Flannel Sheets

Another great way to not only warm up your space, but you as well, is with some flannel sheets. They are relatively inexpensive and can be found at stores such as Target or Walmart. Flannel sheets are super soft and some even come in cute wintery prints. The only downside to flannel sheets is that it can make it virtually impossible to get of bed in the morning.

4. Snowflakes

What’s more appropriate in winter than snowflakes?! Add a cute touch to any room in winter with a few snowflake cutouts or wall decorations. These too can be gold, silver, or any other color you chose.

5. Fuzzy Throws

My last tip for you all, and probably one of my favorites, is to get yourself a winter throw blanket. I personally picked out a light blue one with white snowflakes. It is so cozy and sometimes I enjoy keeping it out year round due to its softness. Nothing says “come cuddle” more than a big soft blanket. For an added touch you can even “throw” in some throw pillows on your bed or couch as well.

So, there you have it ladies! My five tips on how you can transform your room into a whimsical and wintery wonderland! Feel free to come up with, and test out, some of your own ideas as well. Enjoy your own winter wonderland!
