HBCU students across the country are ecstatic as they have a 3 day weekend. HBCU’s typically allot King Day off so that students can commemorate the memory of the late Martin Luther King Jr. Some students are just happy to have an extra day to the weekend.  However do people really know the significance behind it?

We all know Martin Luther King was one of many civil rights leaders who bravely led African Americans in the fight for equality. The day is all about honoring the life and contributions of one of America’s greatest champion of racial justice and equality, the leader who not only dreamed of a color-blind society, but put in great action to achieve it.

This Martin Luther King Day, take the initiative to go out and celebrate his life by participating in a parade or even educating someone else of his legacy. Thanks to leaders like King, students of color have the ability to attend the higher education institutions they study now. For that we are forever grateful.
