Weekly Wanderlust: Mozambique

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Exeter chapter.

Wanderlust location: Bazaruto, Mozambique

January blues kicking in? Well, fear not, HCX is here to make your imagination run wild. We’re here to transport to you the incredible island of Bazurato, Mozambique.

If you’re looking for a hidden island paradise, then this is the place for you. Accessible only by boat or small plane, this small, isolated tropical island sits amid the idyllic Bazaruto National Park.

Bazurato is home to only 2 resorts and a handful of locals, meaning that you will have those spotless beaches and clear aquamarine waters mostly to yourself. The locals who live full time on the island are mostly fisherman who live simple lives in grass huts by the beach. You would have a hard time finding a friendlier, more welcoming people.

The island and surrounding area is teeming with natural wonders. Not only is the national park home to dozens of bird species (including pink flamingos) here you can also find dolphins, 2000 types of fish, sea turtles, and untouched coral reefs. It is the perfect place for snorkelling and diving, but if that isn’t your thing, don’t worry, you can just as easily spend your days lounging by the pool, swimming, or exploring the island.

So what are you waiting for? Book that plane ASAP, you’re not going to regret it!

Currently studying English Literature. I was born in New York, but I call England home. Before starting at the University of Exeter I took a gap year. I spent 5 months road tripping and blogging my way across the USA, seeing 37 states in just over 16,000 miles. Needless to say, I love to travel. I am also an avid bookworm, a writer, a yogi, and a (lazy) hiker, among other things. I have a soft spot for bees, sci-fi, and red velvet cupcakes.
