I may be speaking for myself when I say that I imagine my naturally curly hair looking like Sarah Jessica Parkers until I look in the mirror mid-day. Instead of perfectly permed curls I find frizzy ringlets that remind me of first-year Hermione Granger. So how can we make our naturally curly hair to appear more… natural?

After trying what seemed to be every goopy hair product ever produced my personal favorite is Lush R&B leave in conditioner. Coat the ends of your damp hair with it and let it dry. I never feel like my frizz it out control with this sweet smelling leave-in conditioner! You can also leave it in your dry hair overnight for split end mending. If you suffer from split ends this should be your go-to goo.

Her Campus team member Sarah Maberry also has natural curls. Her trick is hair spraying her hair when it’s damp in order to lock in the natural curl and tame frizz. The hair spray she suggests is Not Your Mothers She’s a Tease. According to Sarah the real holy grail of hair products is the Not Your Mother’s Kinky Moves Curl Cream. If you have those Carrie Bradshaw ringlets, this is the product for you.

Another trick I got from student Emily Ballesteros is to use moose on the ends of your hair and then creamier products towards the top to maintain volume and tame frizz. Emily uses a variety of Wen, Paul Mitchell, or Herbal Essence curl products. If your hair is thick and voluminous than you will want to listen to her advice.

SPU Her Campus Correspondent Samantha Stevens says she styles her hair in a bun most days so that she can keep her ends from getting too damaged by styling. If you want to grow out your waves, try styling your hair in a messy bun or top knot like Samantha.

Very few people understand how the hair brush is actually a curly haired girl’s worst enemy, therefore we have to find other ways to style our hair. I hope found some of these tips and tricks applicable to you!

XOXO Collegiettes!
