The Masquerade Ball #RUinWonderland

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Rutgers chapter.

Sick of the winter blues? Looking for a fun night to get away from the stress of approaching exams? Put on your best dress, grab a date, and get ready to fall down the rabbit hole— this month, RUPA is hosting an Alice in Wonderland themed masquerade ball.

Why you should be excited about this: How many chances does a college student have to get dressed to the nines and attend a formal event? Not a ton, and if you’re like me, you’ll take any opportunity you can get to dress up. This event is going to be kind of like prom was, except a lot more low-key (none of those corny posed photos), and you get to wear cool masks. I’m imagining that my night will play out like this:

The ball will be held in the Zimmerli Art Museum on Hamilton St, College Ave. The museum, which has a huge collection of fine art to explore, will be decked out to look just like Wonderland. Food and drinks will be provided (score!) and you can count on a great DJ and plenty of dancing.

The dress code ranges from formal to “black tie”. Girls are encouraged to wear a formal dress or a gown, and for guys, either a suit or tux works. While I have friends who are currently shopping for cute new dresses to wear, I’ll probably just be pulling out one of my old prom dresses. Most importantly, don’t forget your mask!

The ball will run from from 6:30 to 11 on Saturday, February 27th. Tickets are currently on sale on Facebook or the RUPA website at $20 for students and $30 for guests. Currently, over 600 people have RSVP’ed.

RUPA definitely put in a ton of work to make this event amazing, so don’t miss out! Get your crew together and make plans to go.
