Vinted vs. Poshmark: What You Need to Know about Selling Your Clothes Online

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bryant chapter.

We can probably guarantee that almost every girl has items in her closet that she just never wears anymore, whether it’s that prom dress you wore once and will never wear again, or your favorite shirt from sophomore year of high school. What you may not have known is that you can easily sell those items and make money on apps such as Vinted or Poshmark. We’re here to give you the run down and to compare these two apps.

How It Works

With both of these apps all you have to do is take a few photos, fill out the basic information, and post the listing. You get to decide what price you want to sell for so the ball is in your court. People will make offers and you can either accept or decline their price. On both Poshmark and Vinted your listings are able to get likes and comments. Once you are happy with an offer you have 5 days to ship the package. The buyer pays for the shipping so that part is taken care of. All you have to do is attach the prepaid shipping label and take it to the post office. The money isn’t released until the package is received and approved by person you sold to and then you can easily transfer the earnings into your bank account.

Vinted

There are some differences between these two apps though. Vinted takes 19% of the sale and sometimes has special deals where they only take $2 from a sale for a limited time. Vinted has varied shipping costs depending on the size and type of item being sold. A great feature on Vinted is that it has a vacation mode so if you are unable to sell for some reason you can hide all your items at once. You can also individually hide items. Another great thing about Vinted is you can individually message interested buyers and negotiate pricing with them and see how interested they are.

Poshmark

Poshmark keeps 20% of the sale and as far as we have been using it there have never been any special deals like those on Vinted. For listings under $10 Poshmark takes a flat fee of $2.95 instead of the usual 20%. Poshmark has a $4.99 flat fee for shipping. A cool thing about Poshmark is you can join themed “parties” that happen at certain times of day where you can post your clothes to a specific audience looking for a specific occasion or brand. Another good thing is you can share the item multiple times and it will appear at the top of your followers feed again so they are reminded about it. Poshmark has no private messaging like Vinted does.

Both of these apps are good options for selling your unwanted clothes. We suggest making an account and listing your clothes on both apps to attract the maximum amount of buyers. Look out for the $2 deal on Vinted and for the themed parties on Poshmark. We hope we inspired you to clear out your closet! Who could say no to a little extra cash anyways?
