The Problem With the Kardashians

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Boise State chapter.

Oh the Kardashians.  People either hate them or love them, and there almost seems to be no in between.  For me, I’m probably the one in between.  I can see both sides to the argument, but I’d rather just leave them alone.  I don’t want to get caught up in any war between what makes them great or horrible, but there is one thing that bothers me more about them than anything else I’ve seen.

Yes, this family is everywhere.  If I ever get through any of my Snapchat Discover stories without seeing a title related to the Kardashians, then pigs will probably start flying around.  With every article I see about the Kardashians, on Snapchat and off, it’s always about something material.  Look at Kylie’s new lip colors, I tried dressing like a Kardashian for a week, I tried Kim’s red carpet boob trip, and so on.  Occasionally, articles will talk about actual appearances the Kardashians made, but there’s never anything of substance.  This gets to my biggest pet peeve about the Kardashians:

Do they ever donate to charity?

They’re the biggest stars in America just for having the name Kardashian, and I never hear about them giving back to any important cause.  Maybe they do, but no one hears of it.  Maybe they don’t, then shame on them for having a crap-ton of money and saving every bit of it for themselves.  In all honesty, even if every member of their family only donated $20 to one cause once a year, I would respect them so much more; but does the word “charity” even exist in their vocabulary?

Of course, playing Devil’s advocate, maybe they do.  This might just be the good-hearted side to the Kardashians magazines and paparazzi just don’t show.  In that case, you’re also horrible people and shame on you.  Stars give back to noble causes all the time and they work hard for their money, but I don’t know what the Kardashians are doing with their “hard earned” money.  Probably buying more fur coats.

In conclusion, the Kardashians seem to be the biggest stars in America and I never hear anything about their charitable giving.  Young girls and women look up to these women, and honestly I don’t know what they see besides beauty, fame, and fortune.  Charitable giving really should become apart of the Kardashian image, but unfortunately, I don’t think they will ever be that selfless.
