For the past few seasons in street style and runway fashion, we’ve undeniably seen a whole lot of black and white. From the wardrobes of fashion bloggers to the posts of the Instagram-famous, the world has been taken over by monochrome pieces, and the minimalist look is very in. But this spring is a perfect opportunity to switch it up and introduce a shade into the mix. Neutral no longer has to be confined to a monochromatic color scheme, and everyone from major designers to more affordable clothing brands have shown us just that.
Neutral tones to be on the lookout for this spring? – Nudes and pale pink.
On celebrities: Seen on the Kardashian-Jenners in custom Balmain outfits at Kanye West’s Yeezy Season 3 Show at Madison Square Garden. These head-to-toe neutral outfits may not be practical for everyday wear, but with the entire Kardashian-Jenner family decked out in this color scheme, there’s no doubt it’ll catch on in the fashion and social media worlds soon. Kanye’s Yeezy collection even featured several pieces in the same neutral-inspired colors.
On the runway: Chanel’s Couture Spring 2016 show was stacked with neutral and monochromatic shades. From embellished dresses to the brand’s famous tweed jackets, every model on the runway was rocking neutrals. Not only did this reinforce the new trend but showed how, visually, neutral and monochrome tones can coexist and play nicely together.
In affordable fashion: For a more college-budget friendly example of how to get your hands on colors like these, Zara’s Spring 2016 lookbook features the same neutral tones throughout their entire collection. Other affordable retailers are also offering head to toe pieces in these colors, so your buying options are endless and you can easily stock up on new pieces before spring break.
In design: Each year, Pantone releases their color or colors of the year. In turn, these colors become the inspiration for both fashion and interior design for the rest of the year to come. 2016’s recently-announced colors are Rose Quartz (pictured below) and Serenity (a periwinkle shade). Not only can you incorporate shades of neutral into your wardrobe, but into other design-based aspects of your life as well.
Though neutrals are emerging for Spring this year, that doesn’t mean they’ll soon go out of style. These tones are ones you can permanently add into your monochrome wardrobes and rock all year long. From everyday basics to more formal attire, you can’t go wrong and are sure to be seeing more of this color scheme on campus this spring.
