Insta-Outrage, The Scoop on the New Update

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCF chapter.

Instagram announced that they will update the app soon and use a new algorithm that will show the “best photos” first, instead of showing pictures in chronological order. Rumor has it will come out in the near future. The update is not even available yet, but some users are already very upset.

Instagram has been very understanding and reassured everyone that nothing will happen suddenly without warning.

That would be a devastating blow, thankfully they won’t be breaking our hearts today.

I learned about the change because I was following someone that asked their followers to turn on the post notifications so we don’t miss a thing.

Um, are you serious?

I’m sorry, but I wouldn’t even care to be notified when Beyonce posts a new photo.

This is all happening before the update is even available. I guess the thought of receiving less likes on the ‘gram’ is soul crushing for some, but I find it funny. I’m not going to say I’m above Instagram, because I am totally addicted to it. I love lurking on pretty much everyone, and yes I too enjoy getting likes on my photos. However, I think this is a good opportunity to step back and realize that social media is not real life, and you don’t need it to fuel your own self-worth. I can understand people that are trying to market small businesses feeling a bit of distress, but as for you millennial YouTube makeup artists- take several seats.

I don’t see this small change being the beginning of the be end of Instagram, because somehow we survived all of Facebook’s dramatic changes. No matter what, this update will have no major affect on the world we live in now.
