Living in Malibu has its perks, but being reasonably priced definitely isn’t one of them. Next time you’re stressing about being a broke college student (aren’t we all) keep these tips in mind:

1. Take advantage of free activities

This applies to both on and off campus activities. The events put on by the Board are often free, so if you’re looking for something fun to do, check out their calendar! This is especially helpful if you don’t have a car, or you want to save money on gas. For off campus fun, the beach is always a great (and free) option. If you want to venture out further, check out the free museums in LA, like the Getty Villa and the Fowler Museum.

2. Eat cheaply

Restaurants in Malibu are expensive, so avoid eating out if you want to save money. If you have meal points (or a friend who still has an insane amount left), eat at the caf more often. Otherwise, that money is going to go to waste. Cooking your own meals is another great way to save money on food. If you don’t have a kitchen in your dorm, try searching for microwave only recipes online, or ask an upperclassman if you can borrow theirs!

3. Apply for scholarships

Just because you’ve been accepted to Pepperdine doesn’t mean the scholarship search ends. Lots of organizations have scholarships set aside for not just high school students, but college students too. Pepperdine also has scholarships available. Ask your department what scholarships are available for your major, or try talking to the financial aid office.
