Margo DeKoch, ’17

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at TAMU chapter.

Margo DeKoch is truly one of a kind and has a personality and heart that cannot be matched. Between school, hobbies and keeping up with her non-profit work, she is constantly changing lives for the better. DeKoch, better known as “Marge,” “Margie,” and sometimes “Momma Marge,” is a junior political science major from Corpus Christi. One of her favorite places in the world is Canada. The country holds a special place in her heart because she has a lot of family there. DeKoch has recently been accepted to the Bush School of Government and Public Service where she will be receiving an early master’s degree in public service and administration.

Check out her school for the next two years! WHOOP!

Whatever you do, do NOT talk down on DeKoch’s team, the San Antonio Spurs!

Each year that DeKoch has been in college, she has either planned or conducted a non-profit project. One very successful one was her Twin City Mission’s shelter project where she designed t-shirts with the theme #GIVINGSZN. She raised money for a number of Bryan/College Station men and women who suffer from homelessness. This all happened during the perfect month of November, which is homeless awareness month. This summer, she will be embarking on a new non-profit journey. She is walking 150 miles of the South Texas coast to raise money and awareness for amputees who are in need of prosthetics.

This past March, DeKoch completed a half marathon in San Antonio, and she plans to continue training in hopes of completing a full marathon.

On April 8, 2016, DeKoch’s family and friends joined her in celebration of receiving her Fightin’ Texas Aggie Ring!

To get a better idea of her personality, here a few things her best friends had to say when Her Campus asked them why they love DeKoch:

Kaitland Currier, ’17, said: “Margo is the definition of genuine. She has such a kind and selfless heart and is always looking out for everyone. My favorite thing about her is that she never fails to be herself and bring such a unique energy around others. I love her with all my heart, and I know she will do great things one day.”

Breonna Holcombe, ’17, said: “I love how passionate she is about everything she does and everything she believes in: her friends, her family and her beliefs. When she feels a certain way about something, nothing can stop her from defending it and protecting it. When it comes to her friends, you KNOW Margo has your best interest at heart and will go to the ends of the earth for you. With her family, she makes a special effort to show them she cares and makes them so proud. She is an awesome role model to her nieces. She holds true to a faith in God that is strong and admirable. I love how she can make you laugh the entire time you hang out with her. I love how caring and genuine she is and how if you are feeling down, she can pick you back up without even meaning to! She has an awesome spirit, and I hope to know her and remain the best of friends until we are old and grey.”

Madeline Bales, ’17, said: “Oh gosh, there’s lots of things, but I love how quick witted she is. Like no matter what, she always has a joke. I’ve known her for 9 years. She’s a genuinely kind person and always wants everyone to be happy!”

Briana Moreno, ’17, said: “I love that she’s a genuine-being who cares so much about others and their well being. I admire how hard she works for what she believes in and to accomplish all of her dreams. Her personality is absolutely amazing, and she has the ability to make anyone smile and feel welcomed. She’s a beautiful person, inside and out.”

Anytime you see DeKoch around campus, be sure to give her a smile, or wave at her to thank her for her selfless service to our community here at Texas A&M!
