Stages of Being Back at School

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

Welcome back to school, collegiettes! With the fall semester having just started, I have to admit that I’m already starting to feel a little homesick. School is awesome, and the start of the semester is a sure sign that midnight Steak n’ Shake runs with your roomie will be back on again, along with your daily trips to Starbucks during finals week. Nonetheless, it’s always a little hard to leave home. Here are the stages of going back to school:

Stage 1: Excitement

Summer’s been fun, but you’re ready to get back to school and back to midtown… after one last trip to the mall. Hooray for back to school deals!

Stage 2: Realization

Your fridge will never be as full as the one at home. No more breakfast a la mom. No more watching Grey’s Anatomy with your dog. You also have to pack. You have to pack so much.

Stage 3: Dread

Back to paying rent. Back to all-nighters in the library. Back to eating Nutella sandwiches for dinner.

Stage 4: Acceptance

You eat like there’s no tomorrow and browse on Pinterest for ways to pump up your new apartment. It’s totally going to look like an Anthropologie catalog this year.

Stage 5: Determination

New semester, new you. You’re going to ace all your finals. You’re going to be a beautiful, tan gazelle who never falls asleep with her makeup on.

Stage 6: Excitement again

Guess who’s back? Back again? Guess who’s back? Tell your friends.
