Personal safety device “Wearsafe tab” offers subtle aid but huge comfort

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Point Park chapter.

The world can be scary and unsafe. For collegiettes that don’t feel safe walking alone, especially at night, having a device that can instantly connect your location and situation to those closest to you can provide comfort. In an emergency situation, fumbling around for your phone can waste time and may not always be possible. The Wearsafe tag is a device that can provide this reassurance in uneasy situations.

The Wearsafe tag is a personal safety button that instantly connects you to a network comprised of people you love, and that love you most. This discreet and easy to wear button, when pressed, instantly sends out your exact location to your selected network as well as a live audio feed so that network can hear what’s going on. The button works within a 200-foot range of your cell phone, so if you’re unable to get to your phone safely, you’ll still be able to send out this alert. The device will silently vibrate when the alert is sent out, and when someone in your network opens the notification you’ll receive another silent vibration so you know that help is on the way.

So how do you get set up with your own Wearsafe tag safety system? The tag connects through Bluetooth to an app on your mobile device. Download the “Wearsafe” app in your app store. Right now on the Wearsafe website, they will send you the tag free. The service itself costs $5 a month, but that is a small price to pay for an extra sense of safety and comfort.
