For college students, Halloween begins on a Thursday and continues throughout the weekend. The Cotati Crawl was filled with witches, playboy bunnies, scarecrows, superheros, and much much more. Bars like Spancky’s, Friar Tucks, and Tradewinds served special halloween themed drinks and provided the perfect atmosphere for fun. Here’s how my halloween weekend turned out and some tips for next year’s festivities.

Take it from someone who does not plan ahead when it comes to halloween…make sure you have your costume picked out and prepared ahead of time so you are not forced to make one up last minute. We began our night at a kickback to pregame and finish getting our costumes together. My roommate was a scarecrow and my last minute costume for night one ended up being a farmer. I added fake freckles and blacked out one of my teeth with eyeliner. After getting ready we took an uber to the pregame party. We found out that everyone from the party would be walking to the bars soon after we arrived. But like any large group of people, it took too long to get everyone together so my roommate and I left to meet up with friends at the bars.

The line outside of Friar Tuck’s was long, but moved fast. Soon we were in the bar and dancing with our friends. Ladies, when it’s time for a drink find an acquaintance and ask them to buy you a one. The five Patron shots for my friends were free thanks to an old friend. Remember that just because a guy buys you a drink (or five) doesn’t mean you owe them anything. They chose to buy it and you can choose to walk away after. After our drinks we headed to Spanky’s.

Spanky’s line moved a lot slower than the previous line. Once we got in we went straight to the stage to dance. The fun thing about the bars is that you always see people you know, which  can be fun and irritating at the same time. Make certain that before you go out for the night, you have a plan for a ride home. Too many times I have gotten stuck at parties because plans fell through. You may even consider having one or two backup plans in case your sober driver drinks too much.  And last of all, make sure you stick with someone all night so you’re safe and leaving at the end of the night is easier. When a friend gets lost it can delay you getting home for an hour or two, like it did for me. Take it from me and learn from my mistakes this halloween. These rules apply for any outing, party, or bar crawl you may go on. Be safe and party on!

Hi I'm Ari. I love all things nature. There is beauty all around us, we just have to look to really see it. I love anything yoga, cheese, crystals, hula hooping, eating and traveling.
