HC: “Danny! Tell me about your art show coming up.”
Danny: “My art show is called Solitude and it’ll be from November 7th to the 21st in the Fine Arts Gallery Lobby, in front of the Martin-Mullen Gallery. The opening reception is November 9th from 5-6 and there will be snacks and refreshments!”
HC: “When did you become interested in photography?”
Danny: “In ninth grade I got my first camera for Christmas, but I didn’t take photography classes until eleventh and twelfth grade. I became really serious about it when I got to college and realized it’s what I want to do with my life.”
HC: “What kind of things do you like to shoot?”
Danny: “I really like concert photography and shooting live music because it helps me remember the performance, and I enjoy capturing the emotion of the performers. It’s also cool to become involved with the bands through photographing their shows.”
HC: “What inspires you?”
Danny: “I do my work because it helps me mentally as a person, and by revealing what the message is makes it mean less to me. I like that people can interpret it in their own way.”
HC: “What do you think are some misconceptions people have about photographers or photography in general?”
Danny: “That photography is easy because anyone can take pictures, and that you’ll never be able to make money with it. People also don’t take photographers seriously and consider it hiring someone for a job, so they don’t think they should pay their photographers or credit their work.”
HC: “What are your goals for the future with photography?”
Danny: “I think it’d be awesome to be a touring band photographer while I’m young and get to travel all over with the band. It’d also be awesome one day to have my work showcased in the MoMA or Met or have my own gallery show in a prestigious art gallery. Mostly, my main goal is just to make money doing what I love, even though I really just want to do it for myself and not the money, but obviously it’d still be great to make money doing it.”
HC: “What is your favorite thing about Oneonta?”
Danny: “The opportunities it’s given me for my photography. I’ve had a lot of support from friends I’ve met here. Along with that, the music scene and the peoples I’ve met through that. They’re some of the best people I’ve met and become of it Oneonta has really become a second home to me and I feel comfortable here.”
