For When You’re Feeling Hopeless About the 2016 Election

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Rhodes chapter.

So that’s it. Donald Trump won the Electoral College, yet Hilary Clinton won the popular vote and still lost. Well, for the fellow millennia’s that are feeling hopeless, confused, and unsure of how our bright future filled with desire and motivation to change our country for the better, may have just been swiped out from underneath us… here are some quotes from some pretty inspiring people. Hopefully they will restore some hope and trust within you :)

Here is a positive quote for every negative feeling targeted at the fact that Donald Trump is our new president for the next 4 years:

If you’re feeling Hopeless:

We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope.” -Martin Luther King, Jr.

My dream is of a place and a time where America will once again be seen as the last best hope of earth.” -Abraham Lincoln

You may not always have a comfortable life and you will not always be able to solve all of the world’s problems at once but don’t ever underestimate the importance you can have because history has shown us that courage can be contagious and hope can take on a life of its own.” -Michelle Obama

If you’re feeling Mute:

Much unhappiness has come into the world because of bewilderment and things left unsaid.” Fyodor Dostoyevsky

Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, and you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost.” -John Quincy Adams

“The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.” -Walt Disney

Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does.” -William James

If you’re feeling Defeated:

Problems are not stop signs, they are guidelines.” -Robert H. Schuller

“You can’t cross the sea merely by standing and staring at the water.” -Rabindranath Tagore

“Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don’t lose faith.” -Steve Jobs

“Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.” -Charles R. Swindoll

If all you need is some Inspiration:

“Don’t watch the clock, do what it does. Keep going.” -Sam Levenson

“With the new day comes new strength and new thoughts.” -Eleanor Roosevelt

It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light.” -Aristotle Onassis

“You cannot have a positive life and a negative mind.” -Joyce Meyer

If some of these aren’t inspiration, I don’t know what is. Instead of saying RIP America, let’s make it alive again. As Yoda would say, “May the force be with you.”

Hi! I'm Nathalie Vacheron, a senior at Rhodes hailing from Germantown, Tennessee. I love to write, I love to edit, and I'm in love with the voice Her Campus gives to women across college campuses. In addition to Her Campus, I'm involved in my sorority, Tri Delta, work in the Counseling/Health Center, am a First Year mentor, and love to run when I can. I'm a Business & Commerce major concentrating in management with a minor in Psychology. I hope to go into health administration, community health, or work for a non-profit (and write a book somewhere in-between...) xoxo
