Embarking on new things, everybody does this at one point or another. Whether you are starting, high school, college, or a new job, you are starting something new and maybe even something that makes you a little nervous. It could even be moving to a new place or a new school. We have all experienced it or will experience it at some point in our lives. Being the new kid isn’t always easy, but it definitely helps shape your life for the better somewhere down the road.

Many of us girls out there seem to always want to be in control and know where our lives are heading in the short and long-term future. We have been trained since we were tiny tots to make goals for ourselves and look ahead to starting out in this great big world as a powerful young woman. However, sometimes you are hit hard with statistics or people who will stifle your dreams and goals, and in reality, your confidence. This affects the way we view ourselves and eventually the way we look at our futures. Sometimes women feel like they can’t do all of the same things as men, maybe someone you’ve encountered has stifled your goals because they say that they’re “unrealistic” or too “ambitious.” And maybe you were telling them you wanted to be an astronaut, but that’s okay, because there is literally nothing too big for women to achieve.

Think about this, as we speak there are people taking tests and looking up future dorm decorations on Pinterest as they plan out their next four years at some college far, far away. Maybe this is where you see yourself, or maybe instead of college you’re pursuing a career that has taken you to a new and unfamiliar city. Well no matter which category you find yourself in, here are some tips for starting out in a new situation or embarking on the unknown.

  1. Do your research; there is always something fun to do, or somewhere to go. Find your niche.
  2. Be open to new things, it’s okay to adventure a little bit and meet new people along the way.
  3. Be positive! No matter what kind of situation you are in, if you can find something to focus on and really try to be positive you will find that you can actually fake it till you make it after all.
  4. Get involved. Getting involved is a quick and easy way to make friends, and if you can find something to do that you really enjoy, you will find that you are making friends that have the same interests as you so #soulmates.
  5. If you try your best and you still don’t succeed, don’t give up because you never know how close you are to actually having a breakthrough. It will all be worth it in the end. I promise.

Remember that no matter what, you aren’t alone and there is probably someone out there going through the same thing as you. Figure out what you are passionate about and hold on to it…
