7 Reasons to Love November

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Queen's U chapter.

In my honest (slightly pessimistic) opinion, November is the one of the worst months. Let’s be real, Thanksgiving and mom’s cooking are distant memories. Halloween was fun (notice the use of past tense). New Year’s and all the other wintery holidays are so far off that it feels like they’re never coming. It’s definitely chillier outside – and though there is still some nice fall weather left, it’s cold, and without the fun and beauty of snow, there’s nothing good about the cold. On the positive side, midterms are finally finished… though most of us students are only surviving due to copious amounts of coffee, especially since we’re trying to ignore that finals are around the corner.

Since it’s far too easy to feel a little down as the temperature starts to drop, here’s a list of the best parts of November to focus on instead!

1. It’s finally somewhat acceptable to listen to Christmas music (and by that I mean you no longer have to hide it – let your inner Michael Bublé out!)

2. All your cute fall outfits can be worn – without being sweaty once you get to class and then freezing while your prof lectures over the air conditioning

3. We’re not limited to winter boots and coats (yet)

4. Halloween candy is on sale – like you needed another reason to consume insane amounts of chocolate…

5. MOVEMBER!

As if the guys here at Queen’s weren’t cute enough, there’s going to be some seriously good-looking guys rocking facial hair in support of a good cause! Whether you’re a fan of facial hair or not, Movember raises awareness and money towards men’s health, and that’s something everyone can get behind.

6. So many new TV shows and movies available on Netflix!

Like Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life!! That’s some of the best damn news I’ve received in a while. Can it be Nov. 25th yet?

7. Comfort food is in season

Bring on the soups, stews, pasta, and more! Yes, salads and smoothies are delicious, but I’d rather get cozy with something warm and yummy when the temp drops!

So, yes, there are definitely downsides to November – it may not be perfect, but hey, neither are we! So let’s focus on the silver lining and enjoy our November!
