A Guide to the Perfect Gossip Girl Thanksgiving

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at TCU chapter.

Hey there Upper East Siders- Thanksgiving is almost here! Oh wait- I’m not even from the Upper East Side. I go to college in Texas… But a girl can dream, am I right? If you’re anything like me, you’ve always been enamored with the show Gossip Girl! I would kill to live a life like Queen B herself- Blair Waldorf. I’m still holding out hope that my Chuck Bass exists out there somewhere. My favorite episodes of Gossip Girl were the Thanksgiving episodes. There was always some juicy drama, but for the most part- the Thanksgiving’s were like a dream. I loved the outfits, the decorations, and everything about each and every one of them. So, here’s a guide on how to have the best Thanksgiving- Upper East Side style.

1. Choosing an outfit: This is the most fun part. For me, a major girly-girl, Thanksgiving is the perfect excuse to get a new outfit to dress up in. Although, unfortunately, the outfit may end up feeling a little snug after you’re finally done eating… But, that’s okay! I would strongly recommend checking out Anthropologie for the perfect Thanksgiving outfit if you’re going for the Gossip Girl look! Nordstrom is also a classic. Try to wear neutrals or a burnt orange or burgundy… Those are my favorite Thanksgiving colors! With that, here’s my favorite Thanksgiving outfit ever from Gossip Girl- from of course, Blair Waldorf!

2. Creating the perfect invite list: Gossip Girl is known for having all of the families get together for Thanksgiving for some quality family time. However, they always end up extending the invites to other people around the community. Sometimes, that leads to some major drama. Ex-boyfriends have even showed up at the Van Der Woodsen’s Thanksgiving dinner. But hey, that always makes things interesting! Of course, family is a must on the invite list, but don’t shy away from inviting friends too. Make sure to remember that no one should be alone on Thanksgiving- not even Jenny Humphrey!

3. Décor: This is so much fun! Decorating for your perfect Thanksgiving is essential. You want your guests to come and feel as if they’re looking at a photograph out of a trendy catalogue. If you’re on the Upper East Side- the bigger and more extravagant the decorations are, the better! I always suggest Anthropologie for cute everything, but I don’t even care! Anthro literally has it all- even fabulous décor. Check out Anthro and Crate and Barrel for the most fabulous decorations!

4. The food: Now let’s not forget the most important part of Thanksgiving- the yummy food! The more turkey, the merrier. Make as much food as you can- green beans, potatoes, turkey, and of course pumpkin and apple pie! Don’t be afraid to try new dishes as well… Look up some spunky recipes. Also- you can’t forget mimosas and some nice wine!

5. Hospitality: Times can get really hectic around Thanksgiving and the holidays. It can be hard trying to please everyone. Do your best to be a welcoming and positive to your guests. Thank them for their time, and be graceful and classy! Also, remember to tell them how thankful you are for each and every one of them. But if things get out of control, sit back and let it roll. There’s not much you can do… Sometimes, it makes things more fun! But hopefully if you’re lucky, things will run smoothly!

The holiday season is an exciting one. Although, my life isn’t Gossip Girl- I can still dream of having a Thanksgiving meal like the Van Der Woodsen’s would have at their fabulous apartment! Don’t forget to be thankful and eat a lot of yummy food. I hope y’all have a wonderful Thanksgiving. You know you love me- XOXO!
