“Pussy Grabs Back”

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Davidson chapter.

While protesting the current president-elect gets the point across that you are unhappy with what he stands for, directing this energy toward a more productive protest might be in your best interest. Bring your aspirations for the future to life by taking action instead of disagreeing. Make your voice heard more loudly and clearly than ever by implementing your own changes instead of waiting for someone else to do it. Here’s one way women across the nation are fighting against Trump’s rampant misogyny.

“Pussy Grabs Back” is a slogan created in response to Trump’s “Grab them by the pussy” to show that women will not sit quietly while Trump actively perpetuates misogyny in our society, which will only worsen when he becomes the president. Many women became more vocal about their feminist beliefs after his famous “locker room talk” conversation. This was especially true for women who were victims of sexual assault.

One of Trump’s many upsetting platforms was the defunding of Planned Parenthood. It will negatively affect approximately 0 men (aside from employees) and will effectively destroy the futures of millions of girls and women. I would like to emphasize girls because not everyone seeking an abortion is 18 years or older, and Trump would still force them to carry this child to term or take it out themselves (ouch!/danger!) Why does a man get to make that call? Unsure, but here’s how women are fighting back.

Donate to Planned Parenthood and abortion clinics

I’m sure a lot of people have heard about it, but donate to Planned Parenthood. If you’re feeling like a really nasty woman, donate in Trump or Pence’s name. This way, cutting government funding to Planned Parenthood will not leave the program with no legs to stand on. And let’s be straight with each other: no one likes abortion.

“Sweet, I can’t wait to go and be harassed by doctors in my conservative state because they don’t want me to get an abortion” is more like, “Now that I’ve been sexually assaulted, this is something I unnecessarily need to deal with since I’ve been ‘forced into motherhood.’” (John Oliver)

Let’s face the reality that men never will; we don’t want abortions, but we need them sometimes. And even if you think that women should only be allowed to have them in certain circumstances, you would feel a hot fire in your heart if you were forced to carry a child to term that you had no say in creating. What would we do if abortion clinics and Planned Parenthood didn’t exist anymore? If a condom tore and I got pregnant even though I took precautionary measures against pregnancy, am I supposed to trash my college career and future because no one will give me a pill during my first trimester? If I were raped at 10 years old, are you seriously going to make me care for a child, even though I’m literally still a child?

We need to do everything we can to keep them around. Donate to them. Support them. No matter your stance on abortion, you cannot deny that some women need them and need your support.

We can’t let a man make decisions about our ovaries and what we do with them, especially when he thinks he can grab us by the pussy and do whatever he wants with us. Let’s be nasty women that grab our rights back.

Next stop: the pay gap.
