When my Her Campus team said they loved my messy bun and asked me to write a tutorial, I replied, “I don’t think you want me doing that, but sure!” You see, I pride myself on being pretty handy with makeup, but when it comes to hair, I’m clueless. I’m 20 years old, and I just learned how to put my hair into a bun without looking like those photoshops of politicians with man buns. So, to celebrate my monumental victory, I’m going to deliver exactly what I promised, with my off-color brand of humor for spice. Enjoy.

You will need:

1. A handful of bobby pins–if you can find any. I mean, I lose them all the time in the recesses of my fanny pack.*

2. 1-2 hair ties

3. A hairbrush (If you have curly hair, you might want to avoid.)

Alright, let’s get this thing over with so I can finish watching Supernatural

Step I: Flip your hair over and use your brush to smooth out any bumps. Grab it all up, and move your fistful of hair to your desired location on top of your head.

Step II: Place one hand where you’re going to make the bun, then grab the tail of your hair with your other hand.

Step III: Start wrapping your hair around the center where your hand is placed. Smile in anticipation of your success.

Step IV: If it looks like you have a doughnut on the top of your head, you’re doing it right! Firmly grasp your little bun-dle of joy. Lol sorry.

Step V: Tuck any flyaways into your bun, and start bobby-pinning in place. Hairspray if needed.

Step VI: If you wanna be extra, try accessorizing. Flowers and bows work splendidly. I chose to go for a more editorial look and used a Hershey’s Kiss. The shine from the aluminum makes this look POP

Have fun looking artfully disheveled.

*Disclaimer–I do not actually own a fanny pack. I am not that lame.
