Date or Ditch: Elf or The Grinch

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Durham chapter.

Girls, get your pen and paper at the ready, it’s time to weigh up the pros and cons- who would you date for Christmas?

Ok, so at first glance I don’t suppose either of these guys would be your first choice…

The hairy green grumpy fella who eats banana skins or the one in the tights with the creepy smile on his face who has no concept of the appropriate way to behave in public?

So, let’s break it down. If Martha May (the most beautiful and popular Who in all Whoville) can live with the green hair then so can you.

And Buddy the Elf isn’t half bad when he loses the tights and scrubs in some fancy work clothes.

Date-wise, I think we can all agree that Buddy’s idea of a fun day out is pretty damn cute!

The Grinch however….

Well let’s just say his schedule is pretty booked up and there’s no way he’d cancel dinner at 6:30pm with himself AGAIN!

He does take pride in his appearance though. The Grinch would make a killer shopping partner and there’s no doubt he’d give you his truthful opinion as well!

Whereas Buddy has one look…and those tights…well I think they speak for themselves.

But really, what it all boils down to is whether you want a man full of Christmas spirit, who’s been on the Nice list for his entire life!

Or if you drift more towards the rogue, the guy who puts on a hard front but deep down has a heart of gold.

Personally, I’m someone full of Christmas spirit so I think dating Buddy would be a bad idea. That much Christmas in one relationship could form something pretty crazy! I’d probably need someone like the Grinch to keep me grounded. Yes his hormonal mood swings would be annoying…

And yes, he’s a little different to your everyday hunk (well, a lot different).

But boy, he definitely hits the nail right on the head about Christmas and that last quote really steals it for me.

So in the words of Cindy Lou “I NOMINATE THE GRINCH”!
