Sadie Rogers: Turning Her Artistic Passions into Reality

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cal Poly chapter.

After being raised by an artistic mother, it’s no surprise Sadie Rogers inherited the crafting gene herself. Sadie is a Cal Poly grad who not only works as a graphic designer for Cal Poly Housing, but has her own design business where she sells her creations online and teaches workshops in SLO County.

Despite her mother’s background in art and hand-lettering, Sadie didn’t begin practicing her art until later in her life. After a backpacking accident left her with multiple injuries, she turned to lettering as a rehabilitation activity in order to gain strength back in her hands. The process to learn how to write again was excruciating, but she finally built up enough strength to create the masterpieces she now shares with the community.

She has taken her art a step further than solely doodling in notebooks and has now turned her passions into her career. She spends her days designing projects for Cal Poly, then comes home to design for her personal brand, which she sells online. For the past two years, she has also been leading Huckleberry Workshops for people in the community to learn the basic techniques for her favorite mediums, including hand-lettering, water-coloring and much more! She typically holds the workshops once a month, and advertises them on her Instagram page.

Beyond teaching basic knowledge, Sadie’s workshops inspire confidence in the people who typically aren’t artistic in their daily lives. Many people who attend have no previous artistic knowledge, and are able to leave knowing how to replicate the designs Sadie teaches.

To find out how you can sign up for one of Sadie’s workshops, check out her Instagram or website for updates on her latest events!
