I Tried Bullet Journaling and Here’s What Happened

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UC Irvine chapter.

First, what is a bullet journal? It is described as an “analog system” in a digital world. But in my opinion it’s just a planner that you create. So it is personalized for you, it can be your to-do list, sketchbook, notebook, and diary, all-in-one. I really think bullet journaling is great if you are someone who loves to make lists, and loves planners. But I think the best definition of what a bullet journal is, is from the creator’s website – http://bulletjournal.com/ And if you read that and you are still confused (because I was this buzzfeed article really breaks it down for you – https://www.buzzfeed.com/rachelwmiller/how-to-start-a-bullet-journal

And here’s a cool infographic that also breaks down bullet journaling:

I first started bullet journaling because I just really loved looking at what everyone has done with this simple concept.

Here are some pictures of great bullet journals:

At first I did not get what bullet journaling was I had to look up hundreds of bullet journal flip through videos. You can take any notebook, which I love because I was that person who would spend a lot for a really nice planner. I was really intimidated by all this because if you look up bullet journal on Pinterest or Instagram, you will get all these pictures of beautiful journals, with amazing handwriting ad fancy doodles. Basically, it looked like it would take me forever just to set up a page. But I kept having to remind myself, “it is just a planner and I do not need to be an artist to use a planner.” The beauty of the bullet journal is that you can make it whatever you want. For example, when I was looking up how to bullet journal a lot of people tracked their days by the hour and the weather. I use Google calendars and I have a weather app on my phone so I did not need to track that. But I did need to list all my projects at work so I made a list for that. Personalization to a bullet journal is key. So my bullet journal has a few doodles, maybe some fancy cursive but that works for me.

I use my bullet journal for everything now. I use it not only as a planner for all my assignment, but I also use it for tracking my goals and for taking notes at work or in my clubs on campus. I describe my personal bullet journal as list upon lists upon lists because I kind of make a list for everything.
