How to Get Out of Break Mode and Back in Study Mode

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bloom U chapter.

With the holidays now over and school back in session, it may be difficult for many students to get back into the swing of school or study mode. With these tips however, you will be back into the books in no time.

1. Get Organized

With a new semester comes new classes, new books, new teachers, and a new schedule. The best way to approach this is to get organized. Whether that may be by getting a new calendar or organizer and writing your test, club meetings, or any other future endeavors you have in it or getting new notebooks, folders, and/or other school supplies to help differentiate between the previous semester and this one. Both of these are just a few of the various ways to help you get organized for the new semester.

2. Sign Up for New Clubs, Make New Friends, etc.

Some of the best things about a new semester are the facts that it is a chance to do new things and meet new people. If there was a club that you wanted to join that you could not last semester, now would be the time or maybe trying to meet some new people and make new friends if you are unable to hang out with other friends due to scheduling or even just because you want to make new friends. The beginning of new semester is not only the key time to do this, but also a great opportunity to do this. It will even help you to get pumped for the new semester and excited for all the experiences you will get to have associated with it.

3. Do as Much Homework as You Can

While the first week can either be very difficult or very easy, depending on the class, it is important to try to do as much homework as you can either at the earliest you can or just splitting it up a little each day. That is because it will hurt you more to have to scramble last minute to finish your assignments the day that they are due, rather than being able to finish things earlier in the week or only having to do a little homework each day. By setting up a routine with your homework, it helps you be able to have time to ask questions or look back at notes if you have already done the assignment earlier or give you more much needed free time to relax before next rounds of homework, assignments, and test occur.

4. Organize Other Parts of Your Life

While organizing school supplies or test dates is great, if other parts of your life are not organized as well, that can be a problem that affects you in and out of school. If you have a dorm room, try to make sure you have a good working environment to study and hang out in. Make sure to organize dates for club events or other social gatherings too to also give you something to look forward to. Even simply cleaning up your desk space can help make you feel more confident and ready for a brand new semester.

5. Do What You Need to Do To Study or Do your Work

While this can be used all year round, deciding what works best for your study situation is a great way to help you learn as efficiently as you can. If your roommates or neighbors are loud and you need to study, ask them to quiet down or go to the library. If you need to do a homework assignment and have to choice between a party and your homework, choose homework. There will be other parties and while it is fun and good to relax and have a good time, schoolwork should come first. If you have to maybe drop out of a few clubs or not go out to bars as much because of the work load you will have this semester, that is perfectly understandable. Your grades and schoolwork should come first and doing what you need to do to your best is the most helpful thing that you can do for yourself. Even if getting a tutor for a difficult class or going to the Writing Center to look over a paper can help you to boost your grades and are free and helpful ways to up your GPA from last semester.

These are just a few tips to help you have a great start to the semester and to help you get back into the swing of things. Find what works best for you and I am sure you will have a great start to an even greater semester!
