In case you haven’t heard or checked your school email, William “Billy” Boyette Jr. and Mary Rice are on the run. WUWF reports Boyette is connected to four murders and multiple robberies that have occurred since Jan. 31. Two women, Alicia Greer and Jacqueline Moore, were found dead in a hotel room in Milton. Greer used to be Boyette’s girlfriend. The next victim was Peggy Broz from Lillian, Alabama. Then on Monday, Boyette and Rice allegedly shot and wounded Kayla Crocker and stole her vehicle.
According to the Pensacola News Journal Boyette has a long history of drug abuse and was “arrested at least three other times in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties . . . on battery, assault, kidnapping and weapons charges, but never served more than a year in jail.”
The PNJ reports that in 2015, he stabbed his then-girlfriend many times in her arms and legs, tried to strangle her and took her phone.
It seems to me that there were plenty of chances to apprehend this monster of a man but, then again, I’m not a lawyer, police officer, or a judge.
The reward for the capture of Boyette and Rice has risen to $21,000, according to the PNJ, within the last few days. It isn’t about the money; we should be concerned with getting this ogre off the streets… but $21,000… What would I do with $21,000?
1. Split all of it between the victims’ families
$5,250 could never make up for the loss of a loved one. It probably couldn’t even pay Crocker’s hospital bills. But they deserve to have a little financial weight taken off their shoulders.
I can’t imagine the sadness felt by the families of the victims, my heart truly goes out to them. Money can’t buy their daughters, sisters, wives or mothers back, but it may soften the financial blow in some small way.
2. Pay off about one fourth of my student loans
That’s all $21,000 would cover, honestly. Don’t take loans or attend out-of-state college, kids. It’ll ruin your bank account.
3. Get 583 mani-pedis
I’m typically that girl who brings candy to share and likes videos of tiny pigs so if I turned Dog the Bounty Hunter and caught a serial killer… I’d deserve to treat myself – 583 times.
4. Buy a boat and sail away!
I can’t imagine that catching serial killers wouldn’t be traumatic. Just the thought of Boyette and Rice’s evil makes me cringe. I’d need a little getaway to Kokomo. I’d get there fast and then I’d take it slow.
5. Buy a lifetime supply of Hardee’s breakfast
According to Escambia County Sheriff David Morgan, Boyette and Rice went to Hardee’s and had a nice breakfast after shooting Crocker and stealing her car. That’s why I’d buy a lifetime supply of Hardee’s breakfast. I’d send a biscuit to their jail cell everyday with instruction to leave it just out of reach: torture by bacon, egg and cheese.
At 9 a.m. this morning, the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s office held a press conference. The authorities say that unless Boyette turns himself in, it is unlikely that he will survive. Sheriff Bob Johnson said, “Our officers are not taking a shot from this guy.” They again reminded the public to be aware, not to approach the criminals, and to call 911 with any information regarding Boyette and Rice’s whereabouts.
Seriously, guys, stay away from this irredeemable couple. Risking your life is not worth $21,000. They are dangerous, and their targets have only been women. Keep your pepper spray handy, and don’t put yourself in any vulnerable situations until these criminals are caught.
