Valentine’s Day Movie and Ice Cream Pairings

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Wyoming chapter.

I am not going to sugarcoat this, sometimes Valentine’s Day can suck. But I am here to help sugarcoat your teeth and your heart. Here are some absolutely wonderful rom-coms and their equally wonderful ice cream pairings. I present to you Khamis’s perfect Valentine’s Day movie and ice cream playlist.

10 Things I Hate About You and Everything But The…

10 Things I Hate About You is a fantastic movie. I have seen this movie about 10 times and I love it even more every time I watch it. It’s a typical high school rom-com, but there is just something about it that makes me so happy. They did such a good job with casting it. Julia Stiles, love her. Heath Ledger, R.I.P. I love you. Joseph Gordon Levitt, you are so darn cute. I think you get cuter every time I see you. In a movie, surprisingly I’ve never seen him in real life. This perfect trifecta of actors/actresses is why Everything But The…is the perfect pairing. Everything But The…is the perfect trifecta of chocolate covered almonds, Heath bar chunks, and chocolate peanut butter cups. This ice cream is so heavenly that I had to go to the store and buy myself some just so I could get through this.

Clueless and Rocky Road

Clueless. How do I even begin to explain Clueless? For those of you who haven’t seen this movie you are in for a wild ride. A good wild ride. A wild ride that includes bathroom breaks and ice cream, so chill. I love this movie. It is great, but also weird. That is why I am pairing this movie with Rocky Road. You are lying if you say Rocky Road isn’t a weird ice cream. Marshmallows in frozen chocolate!? Marshmallows are for hot cocoa, not cold cocoa. But damn, it is so good. That is how I feel about this movie. It’s weird, but so great. Paul Rudd, Alicia Silverstone, and Donald Faison, oh my! Chocolate ice cream, marshmallows, and chocolate covered almonds, oh my!

The Princess Bride and S’mores

Oh my god. I freaking love this movie. I was skeptical at first. Like seriously, what the hell are R.O.U.Ss? Why does everyone always say “As you wish”? What is so funny about “inconceivable!”? Now I know. I’m in the loop and I love the loop. If you are not in the loop, get in the loop. Now. This movie had me rolling. I no joke almost peed my pants when I first watched this. Granted I had just had a lot to drink (water, not anything else. OK, maybe Gatorade) and I was pretty sick when I first watched it, but that doesn’t take away from how amazing this movie is. S’mores are also something I was originally pretty skeptical of. I know what you’re thinking, “What is fishy about chocolate, marshmallows, and graham crackers?” I don’t know. I can’t explain my skepticism. Maybe it was because of the fire used to make the s’mores. I don’t know. Anyway, I was proved hella wrong. Both are great. Both are perfect. Both are endgame (honestly, don’t really understand that completely, but it sounds good).

Bridget Jones’s Diary and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough

This movie is primetime. Hugh Grant and Colin Firth. YASS. I am crushing on them both hardcore. Bridget speaks to me on a molecular level. I am also crushing on her. Honestly, I am crushing on everyone in this movie. It is so magnificent. It is so funny. I crack up everytime I watch it. I watch it whenever I feel sad. The second one was taken off of Netflix and I am bummed about that, but the first one is still up and I am seriously taking advantage of that. You should too. Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough is a great pairing for this movie because Colin Firth is a surprisingly delicious addition (the cookie dough) to the already expected awesomeness that is Hugh Grant (chocolate chips). That might sound weird, but honestly Colin Firth seems so boring, but he is the greatest and it is so freaking shocking. Don’t knock him until you watch a movie he is in. Don’t knock Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream until you eat the whole pint.

I am assuming that you are not going to watch more than four movies on Valentine’s Day, but you know what they say about assuming, so I am sorry if you feel my list is lacking. Have a happy movie and ice cream filled Valentine’s Day.
