For many of us, graduating high school and starting college makes us feel like adults. Personally, I go back and forth whether I’m an adult or not. I have my own car, I pay some bills, I am an adult. On the other hand, I still live with my parents, but even if I didn’t, I would get calls asking my whereabouts. Although being an adult comes with its perks, I’m happy with “kinda” being an adult. I’m more of an adult than I was a few years ago but I’m also not in a rush to grow up. In the movie 13 Going on 30, Jenna rushes herself to grow up, only to regret missing valuable things from her youth. Here are reasons why you shouldn’t rush to be an adult (if it’s up to you):
1. Free rent (potentially)
Some of us may not have the opportunity, but for those of us who do, we know that living with your family rent free is amazing. You don’t have to worry about paying rent every month because you’re still their child.
2. Home cooked meals
Piggybacking off of number 1, if you still live with your parents, there’s a good chance you’ll have good homecooked food. Although it’s good, fast food will never be your mom’s homemade chicken tacos.
3. Help/support
You’re stressed out about midterms and you also realize you have only one pair of clean socks left. Luckily, your parents are there and offer to do your laundry. Your parents will support you anyways, but there are fewer things they can do for you when you become an adult.
4. Selfishness
You get to be selfish when you’re young. For some of us, being adults include getting married and having children. Having your own family comes with more responsibilities. For now, enjoy the already stressful responsibilities you already have.
5. Grow properly
You can’t rush the natural process of growth. If you rush to be an adult you will miss out on moments in your life that you would really enjoy. You’ll also miss out on some of the lessons that come with taking your time to grow.
