It is that time of year where everyone is breaking up and looking for ways to move on. Instead of being that guy or girl who gets revenge or tries to make themselves feel better by hooking up with a bunch of random people, maybe try something more productive. Focus on yourself: F.O.C.U.S (follow one course until successful).  Some of the quickest ways to get over someone without jeopardizing your dignity is to simply walk away and accept that it is truly over. Here are five easy steps to getting over that breakup so you can move on and find yourself again.

  1. Change your phone number
  2. Delete outside connections
  3. Reconnect with nature
  4. Reconnect with friends
  5. Take a trip

I recommend changing your phone number for starters. There is no better way to remove yourself from toxicity than to cut off communication with all your negative entities. When this person tries to contact you and they can’t, they will realize it is really over, and they would have to work really hard to try to get you back or they’ll leave you alone for good. Either response you get will confirm something in the end.

Another thing you should do is delete them from all social media connections. ALL. You may think you’re strong enough and mature enough to handle those things, but you’re not. It will be painful to see that person posting pictures with people you don’t know, and seeing them move on will put you in a funk. So avoid all of that drama off the bat and unfriend and block that person so they can’t keep tabs on you, and challenge yourself to stick to your guns.

Reconnect with nature! Nature is s natural breakup remedy. It automatically clears your head because you can see the world outside of your problems, and you realize how miniscule they are. You realize there is so much more for you to do in the world and you play a larger role in what has yet to come. Sit with some trees or enjoy a smoke atop a mountain, just remember that nature is healing you.

Reconnect with your friends! They haven’t seen you in a while, and they miss you. And no, they’re not mad at you for all the time you’ve spent with your significant other, but they do feel slightly neglected. Involve them in your life! They will hang out with you, and be a shoulder to cry on, and most importantly they will take your mind off of things. If they’re good friends, they wont judge you and they will understand this has been a stressful time for you, for you know not what you do sometimes and that’s just something we all have to deal with.

My favorite part of this healing process is to take a trip. Nothing gives you more perspective than literally changing your perspective. Although it does cost money to travel, you’d be surprised at how inexpensive it can actually be if you plan it out accordingly. You don’t have to stay long wherever you go, but you do need to give yourself a break from all the stress around you and reconnect with yourself. Spring break is the perfect opportunity to leave the country or just leave the state, then you can explore the world that is begging you to come back to it. Luckily for you, spring break is around the corner, so start making plans NOW for maximum results. Push yourself to commit, and don’t forget to F.O.C.U.S.
