10 Fun Things to Do in New York City

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at IU chapter.

Spring break is coming up. I’m headed off to my favorite city in the world, Manhattan. I’m sure I’m not the only Hoosier going to the Big Apple so here are ten things to do in the Big Apple over Spring Break.

Shopping on Broadway in Soho. Soho is very trendy so it’s the perfect place to find cute clothes. Some of my favorite stores are Necessary Clothing, Uniqlo, and Mystique Boutique.

Getting half-price tickets to a Broadway show. If you go to the red stairs in the middle of Times Square on the day of a show, people oftentimes sell discounted tickets. My mom and I were able to get half price tickets to Cinderella three years ago. They release the best tickets closer to show time.

Take the Staten Island Ferry to see Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. Going on the official Statue of Liberty line is long and expensive. The Staten Island Ferry is way cheaper! So save youself the expense of looking like a huge tourirst.

Go on a carriage ride in Central Park. The horse-drawn carriages will be lined up in Central Park near 5th Avenue. It’s a great way to see the beauty of the lower park. If you’re there with a significant other, this can be super ~romantic~.

Check out the Wall Street bars. This is where cute, rich investment bankers hang out. Do I really need to say more?

Go to an Opera at the Met. If you’re in the mood to be “boujee”, check out the Opera. You get to wear a fancy dress and maybe you’ll even see a celebrity or two. After all the Met is featured in quite a few Gossip Girl episodes.

If you’re a big spender, hit up 5th Avenue. 5th Ave. is one of the finest places in the world to sho for luxury goods. So channel your inner Blair or Serena walking around in Bergdorfs or Bendels.

Go to a wine bar. Last year, my mom and I went to the Bourgeois Pig in the East Village. It was small fondue restaurant/ wine bar. The food was amazing and the sangria was even better!

Eat New York-style pizza. The best pizza in the world can be found in Manhattan. I would recommend going to Little Italy for pizza. Find a small hole-in-the-wall place. Those are always the most authentic.

Go to a bakery in Little Italy. While you’re eating your pizza in Little Italy, you might as well get a cannoli to go with it! My favorite bakery is Ferrara on Grand Street.
