10 Things that Happen When You Go Home for Spring Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

Now that BU’s Spring Break is over and classes are starting again, I was able to reflect on what I experienced throughout the week. Here are some things to expect on a collegiate Spring Break:

1. You can request any meal.

Your mom or grandma or aunt will make you any meal. They will almost force feed you home cooked meals. Don’t be afraid to ask your mom to make you brownies at 9 PM because she’ll be more than happy.

2. You’ll get home and feel like a superstar.

Your parents lay out the red carpet for you. Your room will be clean, your bed will be freshly made, and your bathroom will be stocked with clean towels.

3. Your mom and/or dad will cry.

It’s inevitable. They’ll either cry right in front of you or you’ll catch them tearing up when they think you’re not looking.

4. You will tear up when seeing your dogs.

Two things might happen. Your dogs will be so happy to see you, jump on you relentlessly, and stare at you throughout the week to make sure you’re still there. Or, your dog might hold a grudge that you left and give you the silent treatment for an hour or so. Either way, the best feeling is waking up to your dog staring at you and wagging their tail.

5. Your bed will be unusually comfortable.

You’ll crawl into bed and wonder how you ever got used to sleeping in a lofted dorm-style bed.

6. Showers will feel ultra-luxurious.

It will feel weird taking a long shower with privacy. The hot water doesn’t fade, and you can lounge in your towel for as long as you want.

7. You will discover the “where are you applying to college” questions have been replaced.

Instead of asking where you’re applying to college, neighbors and grandparents will now ask about internship opportunities, your major, and your favorite class. Get used to it.

8. Driving will feel weird.

If you go to a city school or don’t have a car on campus, driving will feel strange.

9. You will have no clothing.

Everything you wear is at college, and you’ll be stuck wearing a mix of your tenth-grade jeans, high school tennis t-shirts, and your mom’s sweaters.

10. You’ll appreciate everything more.

You’ll remember how good it is to be home and appreciate the little things your parents do to make your life easier.

So enjoy your Spring Break at home, and give your dogs an extra hug.
