Types of Boys You Meet at UW Buildings

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wisconsin chapter.

If you’ve ever suffered a heartbreak, you’ve probably heard the phrase “there’s plenty of fish in the sea.” Well luckily, there are plenty of boys on campus for you Badger girls. Here’s a list of pros and cons to the boys you can find in the buildings closest to you.

Grainger Hall/ School of Business

Pros:

  • He’ll always be dressed to the nines. And he actually owns something socially acceptable to wear on a formal date night. He probably also doesn’t consider his black sweatpants to be his “nice pants.”
  • What’s more attractive than someone with ambition and goals?

Cons:

  • He says he doesn’t believe in mansplaining, but then proceeds to mansplain to you.
  • He’s constantly looking to make a pretty penny, and he loves to spit out statistical numbers on how much you could save if you didn’t treat yourself to all those Starbucks coffees.

Engineering Hall

Pros:

  • Here’s what I can guarantee: he has taken the course you are barely getting by in and won’t charge you for tutoring sessions.
  • He will enjoy putting your apartment’s new IKEA furniture together with directions that only came in every other language but English.

Cons:

  • Since he has little experience socializing with women, the first few conversations are bound to be awkward.
  • Likes to talk about coding, A LOT.

Van Vleck

Pros:

  • He is your personal human calculator, which is great for sale shopping!
  • He helps you budget. And if you play your cards right, he might even do your taxes in the future.

Cons:

  • He tends to see issues as black and white, which leaves little room for your new perspective.
  • He is bossy and impatient.

Signe Skott Cooper Hall/School of Nursing

Pros:

  • This guy is one of the few men you will find who knows the difference between catching the common cold and being diagnosed with a terminal illness.
  • He will know how to nurture you in a helpful and loving way.

Cons:

  • You will always think he has the hots for his female classmates/co-workers.
  • Finding a boy in this building is just hard in the first place.

Chemistry Building

Pros:

  • He must wear jeans at least once a week to class (bonus points if he already owned a pair before lab).
  • Your chemistry with one another will be undeniable.

Cons:

  • He’s really into movies with explosions in them… and explosions in general.
  • He tends to disappear for three hours at a time because he’s with his “lab partner,” who you probably stalked on Facebook to see if she’s pretty. She is.

Van Hise

Pros:

  • This is your best shot at finding someone who has an adorable accent!
  • He will make a great travel buddy (because you know, language and all).

Cons:

  • He’s a total grammar Nazi.
  • You’re not sure what he is saying to that girl in [insert foreign language here]. But it’s probably flirting, right? It’s definitely flirting.

Law School

Pros:

  • You can finally have an excuse to shop at those super cool color coded tie tables in Macy’s.
  • He can help you get out of a sticky situation, aka. anything you did Saturday night.

Cons:

  • He will be spending more time with his books than you until graduation…and then after that too.
  • He is obsessed with being right, and the argument won’t end until you have come to that verdict (even though you know you’re right).

The SERF/ Natatorium

Pros:

  • He’s a disciplined, committed team player!
  • He has a hot bod— or is at least working to get there.

Cons:

  • He swears bulk protein powder has changed his life and will spend tons of money on it.
  • Expect that three-on-three with the guys to take precedence over your one-on-one time with him.

Computer Sciences/ DoIT Store

Pros:

  • He can help clean-up, fix, or simply turn your computer off and on again for you.
  • He will delete your cookies if you bake him cookies! (That’s how that works right? Lol)

Cons:

  • He takes an oddly strong stance on PC versus Mac.
  • There will never be a day he forgets to clear his browser history.

Psychology Building

Pros:

  • No doubt that this boy will listen to you rant about that argument you just had with your sister, mom, roommate etc.
  • He knows exactly how you feel even before you do.

Cons:

  • He asks way too many personal questions on your first date.
  • He really encourages the use of “I feel” statements….
