2017 Boston Marathon

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Suffolk chapter.

One of my favorite days of the entire year in Boston is Patriots Day. Patriots Day not only commemorates the anniversary of the Battles of Lexington and Concord, but is the annual run of the Boston Marathon, and a sign of spring here in the city. Boston is filled with half a million people, spectators and runners alike, all crowding around the Boylston Street finish line.

One of my favorite parts of the day is being able to see people cross the finish line with the greatest smile on their faces. Completing a race that is 26.2 miles long is a huge feat.

The vibe of the day is filled with excitement and pride in not only the runners in the race, but the city of Boston as well. Four years ago, after one of the biggest American terrorist attacks since 9/11, the city of Boston showed how “strong” they were by coming together to assist everyone injured in the attack. The city of Boston showed tremendous heart, just like all the runners in the marathon.

The winners of this year’s marathon were Geoffrey Kirui and Edna Kiplagat, both from Kenya.

Congratulations to all the runners in this year’s marathon! If you ever have the opportunity to attend the Boston Marathon, I highly suggest you attend one of the most beloved races of all time in one of the greatest cities in the world.
