Ask any woman on campus wearing letters about Greek Life and she will tell you it’s the best decision that she’s ever made. But those of us who are Greek join for more than just the letters; each of us have a unique experience and have found a home away from home. If you are on the fence about going through recruitment or haven’t even thought about it at all, here is a little insight as to what makes Greek Life so special to women at UMaine.

Mary, a junior at UMaine says “greek life has opened so many doors for me since I have joined. I’ve gotten to have so many new experiences that I never thought I would have and have grown as a person. It’s been an incredible experience to be surrounded by so many strong and inspiring women that I get to call my sisters.”

Hannah says that “joining my chapter has given new connections for the future, leadership opportunities that have given me direct satisfaction in helping people my own age and helping members grow. I was an intern at Jackson Lab and the first week I found out alum worked there and the showed me around and made it feel like home.”

Maddie says that “the reason I went Greek was I came to campus from out of state and I wanted to come to campus and find a community and be my family. And once I joined I instantly found that home.”

Amy, a senior at UMaine says that “generally people think that people in Greek life are only involved in their chapters but since joining mine I have realized it is just the opposite. I have become involved in more campus clubs and organizations than I ever thought possible and am friends with people from all walks of life and I have definitely made my mark on the university.”

Natalie says that “it feels like I always have someone on campus to go to and I have leeway into my interests and I have an outlet make a difference.”
